Back to the Future Part II (1989)

Plot: This movie picks up where the last one left off; with Doc Brown and Marty going into the future to help Marty’s future offspring. After doing that they returned to their own time, only to discover that things have changed. They discovered that while in the future, Marty’s nemesis, Biff Tannen got the sports book that Marty bought so that he could know the results of sports events and make a killing, but Doc Brown nixed his plans, but Tannen who overheard their conversation, got the book and the time machine and went back into the past and gave the book to himself, who has not only amassed a fortune but also extremely powerful. So Doc and Marty have to go back to when Biff got the book and get it away from him. And it seems that it was in 1955 on the night of the dance that Biff got the book. So not only must they get the book but they must also avoid the other versions of themselves.

1. What would Rick Nash’s number be if it wasn’t 61 do you think? I traded for him in my season in NHL 09 and couldn’t think what to give him (Since Afinogenov has 61)

3. Anyone who’s seen Tyler Myers play for Buffalo know he could be the best defenseman Buffalo’s ever had. My friends and I were arguing though, if Boston offered Buffalo Chara for Myers straight up should we do it. One side saids Myers is the future and will be around longer the other Chara’s proven and Myers has only played 8 games
4. How are your fantasy hockey team(s) doing this year
5. What offer could be made to the Capitals to actually make them trade Ovechkin (Realistically no Parise, Crosby, Iginla, Malkin and Nash deals)
6. Should screenplays count as literary works? For school I have to do an author project (Mario Puzo) and for one section need to discuss other works besides the novels I read (Godfather and The Sicilian) and am wondering if Godfather Part II’s screenplay could be considered because plays are allowed. Not hockey but just a random thought

7) I found a new conspiracy on ESPN.com today. That David Stern had the NHL hire Bettman because he knew he’d ruin the NHL, the NBA’s biggest winter competitor. Don’t forget Bettman was working for the NBA before taking over as commish. Thoughts
Some other Stern conspiracys:
-That he fixed the 1985 Draft lottery so the Knicks could land Patrick Ewing so NY could have a major star to market
-That Michael Jordan’s baseball career was really because Stern secretly suspended MJ for gambling
For the Ewing thing I think it was luck. The NBA was close to it’s peak after 84 (The first Bird-Magic finals) and the Knicks were a good team and had a superstar (Bernard King).
The time to use the fix would’ve been 1979. The argubly lowest point in the league
-CBS was showing the finals on tape delay
-The league was considered "too black" and drug use was well known throughout the league
-It wa s acrappy season, only 3 teams won more than 50games and the only great team (Portland) had it’s season ruined by Bill Walton’s injury
-This was the year of the Kermit Washington incident and the Kareem brawl on opening night
-College basketball was at its peak and the national championship between Johnson’s Michigan State team and Larry Bird’s ISU team had been the most watched in NBA history

04. I don’t have one because I don’t get it. Yeah, I am THAT dumb.
05. I am fairly certain that there would be NO offer good enough to get the Caps to trade Ovechkin.
06. As long as the screenplay is not based on an existing literary work but is an independent work on it’s own written specifically to be a screen play I think is should be considered a literary work. One based on an existing work or book, not so much.

07. Sports, like politics can be real dirty. It wouldn’t surprise me at all. I have often wondered WHY the NHL picked a b-ball guy.
It always seems like NY teams get breaks. It is more than likely coincidence. That, and the fact they they have the money. I remember the first interview that i saw with Ewing when he was with Georgetown and I am not lying when I say I could not understand a word the man said., Not one word. Fortunately, he got better at speaking.
The MJ thing, really? I thought the whole baseball thing was VERY odd. I guess that could be the reason. How will we ever know?
That Michigan State team in 1979 was awesome. Probably the last time Bird looked really bad in his B-ball career.
Leave it to LITY to set us straight as usual. At least I thought my guesses were plausible. Not knowledgable, but they WERE only guesses.

1) Nash would have seniority for 61 over Afinogenov in my opinion
2) Del Zotto if you want offense, Myers if you want defense. Both men play a very different style of game. Del Zotto has all the offensive tools to be an above average winger in the NHL if his D doesn’t get better (similar to Wendel Clark and Dustin Byfuglien)
3) Myers has a great deal of potential and Chara is on the wrong side of 30. Unlike Philadelphia which was only missing that one piece, hence the Sbisa trade for Pronger, Buffalo is farther away and while trading Myers for Chara will make them better in the short run, not making that trade will make Buffalo much better in the long ruin.

5) It would have to be one of the deals that you said wasn’t realistic. Realistically, trading Ovechkin would be akin to trading Gretzky the first time around (unthinkable). Washington would have to be in a similar situation as the 96 Kings (collateral debt) or the 01 Penguins (bankruptcy recovery) in order to move Ovechkin
6) I agree. When I was in school, studying literature included studying poems, novels, and plays – so I would think a screenplay would count as a play
7) Not true, the NHL had to pay the NBA a LOT of money to get Bettman out of his NBA contract. While Bettman was with the NBA, he increased their corporate sponsorship 361%, their TV ratings increased over 200%, and their media exposure doubled. Similar to what he has done with the NHL. Also keep in mind that the two leagues need each other to be healthy as they share a lot of buildings that would never have been built without the two leagues being able to survive (Staples Centre in LA, United Centre in Chicago, ACC in Toronto).
Jordan’s year long suspension for gambling is well known in Chicago. Reinsdorf has been vocal about it on more than one occasion while Stern refuses to acknowledge it publicly. It was a way for Reinsdorf to keep his biggest money maker making him money while he wasn’t allowed to play basketball.
