I want to be a pantheist, but I can't let go of christianity?
My family is strictly christian. I don’t mean strict like we dont cut our hair or wear makeup, etc. but strict as in christianity is THE religion, the only religion. I got "saved" when I was about 12, and that’s when i really started paying attention in church… and now 4 years later i am completely fed up with it… most of it seems really hard to believe. i mean noah built a huge boat, him and 7 others took care of thousands of animals, and survived and flood that flooded the entire earth? and thats just one story.. im not trying to offend christians, really im not, but christianity just sort of scares me. i hate going to churches and seeing teens in the youth being yelled at, being told their going to hell unless they get saved and baptised. im so tired of it.
i’m so much more happier in nature. i believe humans should be a part of nature, not above it. and i found a few websites on pantheism and i fell in love with it… it’s just exactly what i believe in and i would love to be a pantheist. of course i wouldnt outright tell everyone about my conversion, but if someone asked i would tell the truth.
the problem is… well I read this quote on one of the websites about pantheism:
"Pantheism fosters a mind that accepts life, the body, and the self: a mind that is free from guilt about original sin or inability to be a martyr; free of anxiety about death or the possibility of eternal punishment beyond death."
i would love to be free of the anxiety about death, to truly believe that im a part of nature, but ive been stuck in christianity so long im afraid to let go. the existence of hell has been driven through my head ever since i was a little kid.
a friend of mine once said "do you ever wonder if our religion is wrong, and someone’s religion is right? like what if christianty is made up, but buddhism is real?" and then of course they said oh nevermind, christianty is the only way to live…
but i dont want the life of a christian anymore… how can i get over my old beliefs?
Teenage rebellion. You’ll grow out of it and come back to Christ.

Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it is not true. Read deeper into it. Jesus Christ really is the only way to be saved.
and
your still a little kid. Don’t think you have all the answers. Read as much as possible before making any decisions.

Maybe it is so hard to give up because you actually know that it is what is true.
God is trying to tell you something and too reach out to you one last time before you just completely reject him.
I’m not trying to be all preachy and stuff, just telling you my thoughts on it. Maybe you should explore Christianity a bit more before you give it up, after all this is your eternity you’re talking about.
About the friend thing, have you ever thought that if Christians are wrong, it’s not going to matter. but if other religions are then that actually does matter because they’ll be judged by the all knowing God who loves them.

it seems you ahve become tired of the same biblical crap some protestant churches dish out. or you want actual answers rather than vagueness. a catholic church gets to the deeper meaning and answers ALL questions. i never tire of this church. catholics believe we are nature, but we cant be wimpy and not believe in hell or heaven simply because we dont want to believe. catholicism gives me strength. if you cant get over old beliefs, then you need to accepts the new ones, but keep the hint: if you cant let go, God doesnt want you to.

Read Acts chapters 2, 8, 10 and 11. You can experience the reality of the Holy Spirit, then you will know.

tough situation,
I think if you’re legally independent ( over 18 years old, in some states/countries, you’re independent at 16 ) then your parents should respect that but some parents will react in a very abusive manner either way so if you want to stay on the safe side, just relax and realize that they don’t have to know.
You know that Christianity received various corruptions and that it would be hard for you to get over the old beliefs, but focus on its good values like when Jesus quoted " those without sin, shall cast the first stone " or the part when he said we should treat our neighbors with kindness and respect.

in my opinion its not so much "getting over" but finding out what fits best for you. Are there things you like about Christianity? if you answered yes then i don’t think you have to get over it if it fits your beliefs. If you answered no then maybe pantheism fits you better. my advice is explore. Talk to a pantheist or search for a scholarly article online concerning pantheism.
i hope i have helped and i wish you luck.

Take a course in basic logic, then read the Bible again. The Bible is the best logical disproof of the Christian version of "god" ever written. If all Christians understood basic logic, then Christianity would cease to exist.

Well, it’s just faith right?
"Pantheism fosters a mind that accepts life, the body, and the self: a mind that is free from guilt about original sin or inability to be a martyr; free of anxiety about death or the possibility of eternal punishment beyond death."
Okayy.. sure, but what about thinking about others and reaching out for those in need and stuff? It kind of seems to me that Pantheism is more about THEMSELF rather than thinking about other people as well and benefitting only themselves. Christians are taught to "love their neighbors as themselves" and to show compassion help others in need. This is why there are so many non-profitable organizations that are started by Christians.
I am a Christian and it’s really hard for me too. And it’s not right for anyone to yell at the youth saying that they’re going to go to hell, because God gave everyone free will to believe or not. Also, just because someone doesnt get baptised, it doesnt mean that they’re going to go to hell… There is only ONE thing that can get anyone into the kingdom of God which you probably know is to believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose again. And Christianity isn’t about what we can do for God (following rules and all that) it’s about what God did for us. God just wants everyone to spend eternity with him in heaven. But like i said, God gave everyone free will and you’re able to choose what you want to believe in. But for me… although this life may be hard at times and i know it’s not the easiest, I believe that I will be able to spend eternity with God in heaven
God bless you~

Just don’t get too concerned about labels. There are lots of them: Wiccan, New Age, Pantheist, Deist, Universalist, etc. each with slightly different but similar meanings. You’re thinking for yourself that’s what’s important. I’m 29 and at the moment not sure which label would fit myself best. Pantheism means a belief that the world around you in nature is alive and itself conscious. Certainly not everyone who believes this is a "pantheist".
I would just keep reading, learning, and thinking as you’ve been doing. People don’t really flat out ask you what you believe that often anyways.
AS far as getting over old beliefs, brainwashing about hell and all that look into the logical analysis of what’s called "Pascal’s Wager", and the rebuttals to it.

Your belief cannot be dictated by other people. So do you really want to become a pantheist, or are you a pantheist yet wanting to come out?
I find it a shame, that parents want their children to accept their believes. I think, you are old enough to decide on your own.

Allison. You are correct to question what you have been taught by others. Answer this question in your quest for understanding and truth: What would you believe, if no one (or no thing) had TOLD you what to believe? Never take anything on face value. Dig deeper, especially from within. This is not an easy question to answer, and will take some time to do so. But only you can answer it.
Concerning Christianity and Pantheism. Their is no need for you to dismiss the elements of Christianity of which you subscribe, to also be a Pantheist. Their are Christian Pantheists, Jewish Pantheists, Buddhist Pantheists, Islamic Pantheists, Pagan Pantheists, Hindu Pantheists, etc. Take what you need from each, and leave the rest. Make your Religion be your own. But never, never, let others tell you what to believe.
