Becoming friends after losing them all?
Here’s a long story. In 6th grade I was friends with everyone, extremely social. Very social with girls, huge self confidence. In 7th grade, It was the same thing. For no reason, some of my friends were being cruel to me. Steven and Dan (dan was always an ******) would exclude me, and just be very mean to me. It got to a point where I cursed them out, called steve fat, and sent them an EXTREMELY mean voice mail. I felt horrible, crying the whole day since I knew from that point I ruined my friendship with them. I started losing all of my friends since they all turned against me after them telling everyone how mean I was. My BEST FRIEND of all time, Collin, (he told me if a fat person was mean to say they were fat) turned against me FOR calling Steve/ Dan fat. So I lost all of my friends, and became very upset. Soon my parents got divorced and I lost ALL of my friends. In August I became friends with Collin again, but I haven’t talked to him since (It is now february) I was very social in 6th and 7th, but losing all of my friends and having my parents divorced made me lose all of my self confidence. I fell into a depression. I made some new friends in 8th grade, but they are all nerds and shy. My old friends were social, fun, and cool. They also were outgoing–more than me. I could easily pick up girls and have girlfriends. However, I haven’t had a girlfriend since the end of 7th grade. I am very shy now, have shy friends, and have no self confidence around girls anymore. All I want is to re-be friends with my old friends. I’m trying so hard, but If I do i’d feel guilty to my new friends for leaving them. I just don’t know what to do. I want to be with my old friends, and get girlfriends again. That makes me happy! I like talking to friends. I am so bored now in school since my friends are shy–they don’t talk!!! And I can’t talk to my old friends… I just don’t have the guts to go up and say hi. It is also another thing that Absolutely NONE of ANY of my friends are in ANY of my classes, I’m with 9th or 7th graders in 60-90% of my classes…. no 8th graders. There is this very hot girl Ashley, in 7th grade I gave her a piggy-back ride. Now, I can barely talk to her. So I am seeking help. How do I get my old friends back? Should I get my old friends back? What about my new friends? How do I become social again? How do I gain self-confidence? Should I go to a psychiatrist? Is it because of my parents divorce that I have these issues? omg i really know exactly wat your going threw! in 6th grade i was best friends with this girl. im in tenth grade now, i stopped being friends with her last year cus i didnt like who she became. but i just randomly started being mean to her and stopped talking to her. &in eighth grade i met another girl i was real close to her to &she just stopped talking to me. (karma). &Then after that i just started loosing friends like no tommorow. and i think im better off now. So maybe you will be better off without them but maybe not.
a couple weeks ago that best friend i was friends with for four years added me on myspace and i approved and she commented me. &yeah. but were not bffs no more. she became bffs with that other girl i was close with. and at first i was like damn. wtf? so maybe you should try talking to them again if they dont want to then screw em! you dont need em. for a start you should say hi to that girl &Start talking to her little by little , maybe start with a wave, then a nod, then a hug, then so on. it should boost up your confidence. maybe you should get an online account like myspace facebook or something so you can atleast start with adding people in your school then talking to them online and when you see them in person you can talk to them! its always easier to talk to someone online.

Good question. Most educated folks of that period did not actually believe the earth was flat btw. More than words, Columbus actually encouraged his men to rape native women of the Carribean Islands in order to subjugate the population. Anyways, I have to believe the intended spirit of the holiday is to celebrate the beginnings of concerted European colonization of the Americas without reference to the concomitant violence. Maybe it should be renamed though, Columbus was a greedy immoral bastard, no doubt.

he was an immoral bastard, but during the time that he was alive, he was thinking along the same lines as the entire european nation. in europe the spanish conquered the netherlands, and performed some sort of ethnic cleansing as well. they sent the spanish armada to great britain in order to stop the protestants from growing larger in numbers, and I can go on and on.
and also, he wasn’t the first ones to "discover" america. there were native americans who came there through migration. the vikings sailed as far as new found-land. and less known, some welsh colonists set foot in the san fransisco bay well before columbus was born.
columbus is celebrated/remembered for the discovery of america. but we mustn’t forget the ethnic cleansing, his greed for gold and other valuable items. it’s estimated that thousands of inca’s died due to 200 spaniards.
but in his time, the inca’s were less than human, so it wasn’t immoral to kill them and rape the women.
it’s just that society nowadays sees it as immoral. and it’s entirely up to you if you want to celebrate columbus day.

Choking Man (2006) IMDB rating: 6.30 Plot: Choking Man is an intense blend of psychological drama and magical realism that encapsulates the contemporary immigrant experience in America.
