I forgot to add True Romance even though Tarantino didn’t direct it (and I’m glad.. Scott did a great job!).. it was his script and it does have a very similar story line to Taxi Driver.

Amusment parks near Fort Lauderdale, Florida?
My family, which ranges in ages from 23-11, will be spending a couple days in Fort Lauderdale, Florida before we leave on a cruise. Are there any amusement type parks in or near Fort Lauderdale?

There aren’t any unless you went to Boomer’s off of 95 they got a roller coaster that is wooden. But everything else would be up in Orlando. There is however Parrot Jungle Island which is kinda far from Ft.Lauderdale. Hope this helps

Boomers looks like your standard family fun center (mini golf/go karts/etc) but it also has a wooden coaster – a 100 foot tall one, biggest in Florida. It looks like a pretty good one, too. Its just 8 miles from Fort Lauderdale.

The other close parks look like they are kiddie parks or are closed/out of business. Then there are the Orlando parks (Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World) that are located about 180 miles away (3 hours). Busch Gardens is in Tampa. It is a great park with excellent coasters and other rides as well as many exotic animals. It is also about 180 miles away (3 hours). If you are willing to get up really early and leave at around 7 AM, you could get to this park by opening time and head back to Fort Lauderdale right after closing. It would make for a long day, but would be totally worth it, in my opinion.

Is there a market for these types of movies?
I am a huge movie buff, and have been so for years. I love movies of all kinds.

But I am finding more and more that movies are becoming so predictable that I feel let down. On top of that, the grade of acting in many movies is just dismal.

As most of you know, most movies consist of a plot, usually with some type of problem that someone or something has to solve. In 99% of movies the story has a happy ending, which is getting kind of boring to be honest. In the real world, things don’t always end well.

It may be depressing to not have a happy ending, but it makes for a more interesting story.

Here are some movies I have seen, with really different or not so happy endings, that I liked.

Why do people value age so much?
I mean I’m only 15 and don’t want to die anytime soon, but people seem to always want to live old. Like they make it a goal. And they tell me I shouldn’t smoke or whatever.

I don’t get it because I’d rather die at 50 from having a good time than to die at 80 when all of my friends are already dead and I’m shriveled up in a nursing home wearing a diaper.

Its not really about age or living to be 80 or 90. Its not the quantity of life but the quality. For example what kind of life would you really have at 50 from having a good time but being sick with cancer? Have you ever seen someone going through radiation and chemo treatments? Its awfully painfull and scary. Or having a blast but your constantly in pain from arthritis and other bone debilitating illnesses. Its important to live a healthy lifestyle not because you want to reach 100 years but you want the years that you do live to be enjoyable and healthy and as painfree as possible.

The funny thing about when we’re so young is that we don’t realize the reason older folks tell us things and give advice is because they’ve been down the same (or a similar) road. We think everything is different for us than it was for them. Times change, sure. But generally speaking, most experiences are the same today as they were several years ago.

To be 50 might seem like a nice ripe old age to you now… But 50 will zip around before you know it. And then you’ll be thinking, "My God, where in hell did all the years go?" I’m certainly not saying that you’ll want to be "shriveled up in a nursing home wearing a diaper." No one WANTS such things to happen. Everyone who survives without being stricken by a fatal incident or disease continues to experience the aging process until that process kills them. This process is more pleasant for some than others. If you were somehow able to set your natural age of death at 50, it would merely speed up your aging process. We age. It’s a fact of life. And for most of us, the older we get the more time we want.

It’s almost as though you can go to sleep today and wake up tomorrow and find that an entire decade has come and gone. I was having an email conversation with an old high school friend recently. She was telling me that she went into the air force just after high school and now has four more years until her retirement. My first thought? "Who is this woman trying to kid? No way does she only have four more years. It hasn’t been THAT long." So I had to give myself a reality check. It HAS been that long. I’ll be 34 years old in a few months, of which I’m fully aware. I mean, I don’t forget my age. But it often escapes me that it means almost 16 years has passed since I was 18. I find myself frequently being stuck in the 90s and wishing that I could somehow turn the clock back to when I was in my 20s.

I remember grown folks trying to encourage me about staying out of trouble, doing something productive and wonderful with my life, and so on… And of course, like most youngsters, I thought, "No biggie. I have plenty of time." Boy was I wrong! We DON’T have plenty of time. Life passes by so quickly. Tomorrow, I reckon, I will wake up and discover that another 16 years has passed. And just like the rest of us, you’ll wake up one day and realize that all those old birds were right.
